Dinwoody Creek runs a milky blue from the glacial silt. Gannett Peak appears quite imposing from the lower parts of the valley.

Fitzroy Dawn – I had my ‘portable easel’ for this shot, which we rented at the airport for US $100 a day. Pricey, but very handy as it also made Jeb and I and all our gear portable as well. We got there before dawn, as was our practice every morning of the trip. Wonderful color and great interaction of the peaks with the clouds.

Fitzroy is the grandest peak in the area. This dawn view came after 36 hours of rain and clouds. We were at the Laguna Capri for the alpenglow show.
I climbed the East Ridge of the Grand one summer with Kent Marshall and my son Jason. We slept the first night on the moraine, and started climbing in the morning. This route is long and moderate, with dramatic views.
The Wind River Range is a wild and remote mountain range. Dinwoody Creek is fed by the large glacier at the base of the range’s highest peak, Gannet.
